Okay, I'm new and got all my bee equipment ready early. Too early. I ran out of projects. So, I decided to try my hand (and perhaps waste my hard earned money) at making a box for catching swarms this Spring.

I ordered a new nuc box from GloryBee Foods, cut some holes in the sides, screwed on a couple of handles, slapped on some window and gutter screen, and added some bungie cords to hold the top on. It's likely more than I'll ever need, but it kept me busy for a weekend. And I'm willing to bet that bees will never, EVER get out in the car.

Here are a couple of pictures.

Nice job! You'll have to update us here when you put it to use. Always room for innovation in the bee-biz!

Tony-
That's too good of a bet to pass up. In my experience, there's only one sure bet in beekeeping and that sure bet is that there's never a sure bet in beekeeping.
You're on. I'll wager you a nickle that in 2010, a bee is going to figure out how to ride that box into your car and will end up buzzing around while you're at the wheel.
Nice looking box. You'll likely get lots of use out of that box.
Good luck!

Very funny. Okay, I take your point, and I'm betting you're right. In any case I'll take your bet for giggles and grins. Of course, that'll depend on my actually getting a swarm but you're on for a nickel in 2010.
